End of Year Info

Hello, Parents!

The end of the school year comes with many events, changes in schedule, etc.

On Tuesday, 5/21, kids will have field day (so long as the weather cooperates). This will be from 8:45-11:45 and then their lunch will be from 11:45-12:30. Please send them to school with a water bottle, comfortable shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing. You're welcome to join in on the fun!

On Wednesday, 5.22, kids have their in-school field trip with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

On Friday, 5/24, we're having the Last Day of School Picnic. This will be during the kids' normal lunch time, 10:45-11:15. All teachers will have sign-out sheets ready at this picnic should you choose to sign your kid out after lunch.

Like I mentioned a few weeks ago, I am having to be absent several days before the school year is over. Next week, I will be at a teaching conference and will be gone Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I know this is not ideal, but the fabulous Mrs. Bugg will be subbing for me on these days. I can assure you the kids are in GREAT hands with her. I will be back for Friday, the last day of school.

Last thing - I wanted to give you a heads up that pink eye has been traveling around the class. I know of 3 cases in our class over the past few days. Be warned! Set off a Lysol bomb. :)

Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks!

Amy

5/9/19

Parents,

Oh my goodness - thank you for the very generous gift card to Amazon! I'm so fortunate to have such an amazing group of kids and parents! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Also, side note, starting this coming week, the only weekly homework kids will have is their 40 minutes of Lexia. No more homework packets coming home on Fridays. Woohoo!!

Thanks again for spoiling me. I feel VERY appreciated.

5/7/19

Parents,

Please CLICK HERE if you can help with the PTA's End of Year Celebration. They still have a few more volunteer slots that need to be filled to make the event happen. Each volunteer receives $2 off an admission wristband.

Speaking of end of the year, on the last day of school (5/24), all kids 1st-4th grades will have a picnic during lunch. You're invited to join us for that! CLICK HERE to see the flyer. I will need to know by next Wednesday (5/15) how many students and adults plan on purchasing hot lunch. This will help the cafeteria staff plan for the picnic. If you don't want to (or can't) print this flyer, feel free to send me an email letting me know if you and/or your 1st grader plan on ordering lunch on that day.

Ask your 1st grader about our butterflies and ladybugs. Kids are LOVING seeing them transform. There were shrieks of delight when the kids saw this morning that the butterflies emerged from their chrysalises. It's going to be bittersweet to send our new critters out into nature at the end of this week.

I love that I get to be your kiddo's teacher. Thanks for allowing me that opportunity. I can't believe that in just a few weeks they're going to be SECOND GRADERS!!!

4/24/19

Parents,

So many updates for you!
  • Important Dates:
    • Walk & Roll To School - 5/8
    • Brantner Field Day - 5/21
    • DMNS In-School Field Trip - 5/22 - Don't forget to turn in $4 for this!
  • Thank you for continuing to collect & turn in box tops. Those will be collected throughout the rest of the school year!
  • Book orders are due tomorrow, 4/25. CLICK HERE to order books.
  • Ask your 1st grader about our ladybugs and butterflies! They're so excited to witness the life cycle of these critters.
  • In art class, the kids are done painting for the year. Mrs. Campbell is returning the kids' art shirts. Those will go home tomorrow if you brought in a shirt at the beginning of the year. I'm sure kids will be asked to bring a shirt again next year, so I suggest holding onto this! :)
  • Because of teacher trainings and conferences, I unfortunately will be missing several days from now until the end of the school year. The good news is that Mrs. Bugg (1st grade's go-to sub) will be subbing for me on each of those days. She is a retired 1st grade teacher, is very familiar with Brantner, and LOVES the kiddos. I am very confident that the class will continue to learn and be wonderful on the days she is here with them.
Thanks so much for reading all of this! Let me know if you have any questions.

4/12/19

Parents,

Today I'm sending home extra notebooks that were brought to school as part of school supplies, but that weren't actually used. I didn't want them to go to waste! Not every kid has an extra notebook to bring home, but most kids do.

Thanks,

Amy

4/11/19

Parents,

Hope you've had a great week so far.

There is a field trip permission slip form coming home today in Thursday folders. Instead of traveling to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, we're having them come to us. I've done this in the past with previous classes and the kids LOVE it. This will happen on 5/22. The museum staff will be talking to the first graders about animal adaptations and senses. The cost for this "field trip" is $4. Please send in that money by 4/25.

You will also see a report for the Superkids Unit 14 Progress Test coming home today. Like usual, you will be able to see how your kiddo did on each of the sub categories of the test.

I wanted to let you know that next Thursday will be the last time our class visits the library this school year. They will be able to checkout books next week, but it will be the final time. This is because library inventory needs to happen before summer break and it takes awhile to complete the inventory process.

Lastly, yesterday we began our last math unit of the school year. Earlier in the year, kids worked on solving addition and subtraction problems up to 20. Now, they're working on solving addition and subtraction problems up to 100. Big step! But, they're rocking it already.

Let me know if you have any questions! Stay warm!
