11/8/18

Parents,

Long time, no talk! Here's what's happening in 1st grade land:

In Superkids, our literacy program, kids are studying long vowels. This week they're studying the "super e" - where a silent 'e' is put onto the end of a word and it changes the vowel sound from a short vowel sound to a long vowel sound. For example, "cap" becomes "cape" when the "super e" is added. This coming week, kids will continue practicing the "super e" but with plural words. So, "cape" becomes "capes".

In writing, we're combining letter writing with informative writing. Kids will need to write a letter to someone telling them what they learned from an informative text. The basics are still expected - capital letters and end marks.

In math, we're wrapping up adding/subtracting to 20. We'll finish that unit right before we go on Thanksgiving break.

Today in Thursday folders, you will see a report from a Superkids assessment that the kiddos took today. It measured decoding, vocabulary, and comprehension. Please look at the report to see how they did in each of those categories.

Here are future library dates for the remainder of the 1st semester, so you know the date by which kids need to have their books returned: Thursday, 11/29, and Thursday, 12/13

Hope you're all doing well. Have a great night!

Amy
